Eight days away

In eight days, Thursday, August 30th, 2012, will be the first South Carolina Gamecocks football game for the year.  It will be a night game, on ESPN, at Vanderbilt.  Good luck, team.

Still not open

As of Saturday, August 11, the River Deck Restaurant was STILL not open.  Wonder when?

RiverDeck restaurant and store

A couple of months ago a local riverside restaurant/store burned.  It's the only place within 20 miles to buy gas for your car.  The merchandise is similar to a 7/11.  They have a grill where you can get sandwiches such as po boys and hamburgers. 

This weekend they're working on re-establishing concrete block walls.  I guess next will be the roof.  I hope it's open by July 4th. 

White mushroom

It's rained a few days in a row around here, and today I saw a beautiful mushroom in the yard.  Lacy and white and really nice looking. 

Angel Oak

There's a gigantic old oak tree on John's Island.  A developer wants to build very close to the tree, and cut down the "forest" near it.  There are environmentalists fighting this project.

the tree is six stories high.  It's believed to be at least 300 years old, but some believe it to be as old as 1000 years old.

A good friend brought me a handmade bouquet for Valentine's day.

The Super Bowl -- yesterday.   Eli's team won.  What is it with those Manning boys?

8 day old baby

Christopher was just eight days old when I got to hold him.  It's been years since I held a tiny baby.

My neighbor has put these in her yard.  They add color at this dreary time of year.

Yesterday was the SC first in the South GOP primary

Newt won.  We'll have to wait and see what happens next.  Should prove interesting.

Nicolas Steno

Monday

January 9th.  Kind of yucky.  Really foggy.  Temp was good, though.  I went to Quilters meeting.  It was nice to see the work people have been doing.  I haven't made anything in quite a while.  One thing I've decided is that I don't want to make full size quilts.  I don't have anyone to give them to, and I can only have so many quilts in the house.

Elvis

Today would have been Elvis' 77th birthday.  I thought maybe there would be movies on tv, but I haven't found them.  I'm disappointed.  I love his music.  My mother loved his music. 

A beautiful Saturday

Today was one of those gorgeous days that makes you glad to be alive and living in South Carolina.  It was about 70 degrees and a little breezy.  It would have been a great day for a little outdoor exercise -- of course< I did NOT do that.

Horses

I don't know much about horses.  I see very few of them in the flow of my daily life.  I think this MAY BE the first time I've ever seen horses lying down.

I went to my knitting group

today and started a "potato chip scarf".  When it's finished I'll put up a photo.

It was so cold today I hated to leave the house.  Fortunately, the weather improved in the afternoon and temps were in the 40's. 

Tonight's the Clemson bowl game.  We will see what happens.

Many of the entries in 2012 will not have a photo.  I'm running out of ideas and fresh photos. 

Today is bright and sunny and beautiful -- and the temp is lower than 40 degrees.

It's gorgeous.  And quite a change from the 70 degree days we've been lucky enough to have.

The year is off to a good start.  A beautiful day.  I had my traditional New Year's Day meal.  Hoping for a year of health and happiness, love and laughter, friends and family.
